Job Description: Reports to:
Director of Community Arts Partnerships

Position Summary:
Work with CAP staff to develop, implement, support and monitor Community Art Education programs in Detroit neighborhoods. Assume primary responsibility for day-to-day operating relationships and communications with Detroit schools and community organizations as directed. Work with Director to oversee curriculum and program quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Education
  • Direct day-to-day activities in education including: faculty teaching assignments, management and support; curriculum development and review; classroom delivery and management
  • Work with Director and staff to hire and train new instructors
  • Work with Director to align community education programs with CAP and CCS mission, funder and program partner goals and objectives
Outreach
  • Act as primary point person for established program partners for day-to-day communications
  • Direct CAP outreach and recruitment activities for CAP community art education programs including managing day-to-day staff activity in these areas
  • Work with Director to present CAP program to schools and community organizations to develop new programs
Program Relationships
  • Support student enrollment and retention in CAP programs
  • Work with Director and staff to implement student and family tracking throughout CAP programs
Program Support/Oversight
  • Support, assess, and report on the performance of CAP instructors, and outreach, youth development, and evaluation personnel performance of their roles and responsibilities
  • Support the delivery and evaluation of CAP program surveys
Other duties as required

Preferred Skills: Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Art, Design, or Education required; Art or Design Education preferred
  • Current or past teacher certification preferred
  • Extensive community-based art/design education experience/training
  • Self starter with ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; writing, telephone, public speaking
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Solid basic computer skills; Word, Excel, e-mail and basic internet browsing/research skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population;
  • Intimate personal knowledge of, and experience with, Detroit’s inner-city communities, schools and organizations
  • Reliable car, valid Michigan Driver’s License and Insurance
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate occasional evening meetings
