NEA Funding Cuts

In late December, Congress finalized its FY 2012 appropriations process with a massive catchall piece of legislation that combined the remaining unfinished federal spending bills. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) suffered a $10 million cut from FY 2011. At $146 million, the NEA’s budget is identical to the president’s FY 2012 request; the funding falls between the $135 million proposed by the House and the $155 million approved by the Senate. Most cultural agencies saw near-level funding or slight decreases across the board.
