A Summer of Reading and CultureThe current MAP program will continue through September 30, 2011. Thanks to the generous support of program sponsor Macy’s, as well as the collaboration of partners, The Library Network, Cultural Alliance of Southeast Michigan, and Library of Michigan Foundation, a total of nearly 300,000 passes to metropolitan Detroit cultural attractions have been checked out to public library patrons in a nine county area since October, 2007.
The Detroit Museum Adventure Pass (MAP) program will return for summer 2012, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This final program in the series will coordinate museum visits with library Summer Reading programs. This approach supports recommendations of the National Summer Learning Association to help children and families combat summer learning loss by participating in reading at libraries and community-based programs. The revamped MAP program also strongly supports Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s education as well as intergovernmental cooperation initiatives.
The new MAP will be an online program. Library patrons will use the
www.detroitadventurepass.org website to obtain information about the program, to ask questions, to print tickets for free or discount admission to cultural attractions, and to get reading recommendations that relate to venues’ exhibits.
Our goal is to expand the number of participating Cultural Alliance members to include the performing arts, as well as museums, and to allow families to more fully participate in the cultural assets of the region.
